If you can’t be comprehensive you might as well be opinionated… Entries due by August 31, 2010.

We were looking at all of our country guides and realised there were some big gaps – how is it we have a guide to Kazakhstan and not France, for instance? Plus a lot of our country guides were written in the early days of Road Junky and we need some fresh blood.

So we decided to have a contest to fill up our list in one big go.

We are interested in reading your original, unpublished stories! (We don't publish stories for children, I'm sorry.) Multiple submissions are fine. (You can send more than one submission per competition, if you like, or submit the same story for different categories, if it qualifies). When we accept a story for publication, we are purchasing first-publication rights. (Once we've published your story, you are free to, for instance, include it in your own collection.)

Dates:
January. Results will be posted at www.glimmertrain.org on March 31.

Narrative’s second annual poetry contest runs from May 26 until July 18. In a continuing effort to encourage and support poetry, we’re offering prizes, publication to the top three winners, and a public announcement of all winners and finalists via the Internet and in hard-copy literary trade publications. Wide attention will be brought to the winners and finalists in the contest.

Deadline: June 30
Prizes:
1st place wins $2,000, publication in Glimmer Train Stories, and 20 copies.
2nd place: $1,000 and possible publication.
3rd place: $600 and possible publication.

Other considerations:
Open to all writers.
We welcome any length from 2,000 to 20,000 words. (Don't worry: A great 2,000 word story can compete against a great 20,000 word story. It's the story that counts.)
