The Patricia Grodd Poetry Prize for Young Writers recognizes outstanding young poets and is open to high school sophomores and juniors throughout the world. The contest winner receives a full scholarship to the Kenyon Review Young Writers workshop . In addition, the winning poem will be published in The Kenyon Review. The second and third place winners will also see their poems published.

Call for Entries to the 2006 PBBY-Salanga Prize

The Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) is now accepting entries for the 2005 PBBY-Salanga Prize. The contest is co-sponsored by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and The National Library. The winner will be given a cash prize of P25,000.00, a gold medal, and an opportunity to be published. Prizes will be awarded in an appropriate ceremony to be held during the celebration of National Children’s Book Day on July 18, 2006.

NVM Gonzalez Awards open

THE 6th NVM Gonzalez Awards is now open to all Filipino writers for the Best Short Story of the Year in English published from November 2004 to Sept. 30, 2005, and the Best Essay of the Year in English or Filipino, published or unpublished, which deals with the life situation of the Filipino.

The Best Short Story carries the grand prize of P50,000 while the Best Essay of the Year garners a P20,000 prize for both English and Filipino.

Deadline for submission of entries is on Oct. 15.

Panos and GKP are pleased to invite submissions for the 2005 Reporting on the Information Society awards. The topic for this year is “Where is the money for bridging the digital divide?”

Four awards of $1,000 each will be made for the best journalism on this topic produced by journalists in developing and transition countries. The winners will also be invited to participate in the World Summit on the Information Society, in Tunis, in November 2005.
